Dr. Travis McIndoe, TCM Practitioner
After growing up in Comox on Vancouver Island, I studied Kinesiology at the University of Victoria. In 1997 I decided to do some traveling in Asia and I eventually ended up living in Taipei, Taiwan for close to ten years where I developed a keen interest in Traditional Chinese medicine. I was very impressed the treatments I recieved for several chronic injuries and began to use it as my primary health care. Not long after, I decided to study Chinese medicine formally and returned to Canada where I pursued full-time studies at the Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Calgary, a satellite school of the prestigious Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Upon graduation I recieved both Doctor of Acupuncture and Master Herbalist diplomas. Besides, the clinical training I recieved in Calgary I have also completed internships in both Taiwan and China where I gained valuable experience from some very experienced TCM doctors.
Since graduating from ACATCM, I have also become interested in western herbal medicine and am currently taking a second Master Herbalist program designed by the late John Christopher who also developed a successful "Incurables Program" for treatment of incurable diseases. I find that the Traditional Chinese medicine and Western herbal medicine complement each other well and look forward to incorporating both into treatments I offer.
I really enjoy seeing the rewards of helping patients with the broad range of conditions treatable by Chinese medicine. I've found herbal medicine and acupuncture to be very effective treatments for variety of conditions including pain syndromes, depression, insomnia, weightloss, etc. Chinese medicine strives to bring the body and mind into a state of balance thereby achieving perfect health and can be used on its own or complementary to other therapies. I am very happy to be joining Okanagan Health and Performance this August (2009) and I am looking forward to serving you and those you love.
